David Ryall, who appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, died Thursday. He was 79.
Though Ryall was perhaps best known for his turn as Elphias Doge in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, the British actor had a TV and film career that spanned five decades. Over the years, he’s starred in films City Of Ember, Around the World in 80 Days and The Elephant Man.
On TV, Ryall appeared in Outnumbered, The Village, The Singing Detective, Andrew Davies’ adaptation of House of Cards, Goodnight Sweetheart and Midsomer Murders.
Ryall’s theater credits include Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Guys and Dolls, The Beggar’s Opera and Animal Farm.
Ryall is survived by his son Jonathan Ryall and daughters Imogen Ryall and Charlie Ryall.
