Barack Obama spoke to John Stewart about his record in the White House on The Daily Show
David Letterman is returning to the small screen with his forthcoming Netflix series. A clip to promote the series shows the talk show host interviewing President Barack Obama about his dad-like dance moves.
The show, called My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, premieres this Friday, and will be a monthly Netflix event. Guests that fans can look forward to seeing include George Clooney, Malala Yousafzai, Tina Fey, and Jay-Z.
In the minute-long released clip, Obama explained a scene where the late Prince pulled his daughter Sasha Obama up on stage to dance at a concert, and Sasha likewise pulled her dad up with her. That “surprises me,” he said, “because she always mocks my dancing… I have dad moves.” The former president then discusses the safe zone for parental dancing, which he calls “staying in the pocket.”
“I think everybody here knows dads who get out of the pocket, and they’re trying stuff that they can’t really pull off,” Obama says to the audience to laughter. “They start doing like karate kicks.”
“Really, karate kicks?” Letterman asks.
“Is that one of the things you do?” Obama retorts.
Obama is Letterman’s first guest in a long line of prestigious names to appear on the show. The first episode airs tomorrow, Friday, January 12, on the streaming service. My Next Guest is the first time Letterman will return to the screen since he hands The Late Show over to Stephen Colbert in 2015. Letterman was on the air three decades, with his first late-night show, NBC’s Late Night with David Letterman, airing in 1982.
