Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has had to cancel his entire residency at the Las Vegas venue House of Blues. Roth has previously announced in October that these shows would be his last before his retirement.
Roth first revealed his retirement in an interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal, hinting that performing was causing him medical stress by saying, “my doctors, my handlers, compelled me to really address that every time I go on stage, I endanger that future.”
The shows were set to begin on New Year’s Eve, with a total of nine dates happening between then and Feb 12, 2022. First only Roth’s first two shows were canceled out of caution, but due to the “alarming” spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant in Nevada, the rest of the shows were eventually pulled as well.
When asked if he plans to reschedule his retirement shows, Roth responded with, “It’s not about me anymore. When the benefits for Kentucky, Colorado, and Farm Aid kick in; Call me.”
Roth is likely referring to the recent natural disasters that occured in those states. There was a destructive fire in Boulder County, Colorado which is now named the “Marshall Fire,” and a tornado that ravaged Western Kentucky in December of last year.
Roth’s last concert was on March 10, 2020. He opened for Kiss at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas. Roth was set to come along for more shows on Kiss’ End of the Road Tour, but the rest of the dates were canceled due to the pandemic.
