David Justice took to Twitter to set the record straight about Halle Berry‘s claim that she was physically assaulted by an ex. Many people have long assumed the unnamed culprit was Justice, but the former pro baseball player wants people to know it wasn’t him.

David Justice On Halle Berry

With Berry recently announcing her impending divorce from Olivier Martinez, her past relationships and breakups have been at the center of the story. One of the more popular anecdotes is that Justice, who was married to Berry from 1992-1997, supposedly caused her to lose hearing in one of her ears after attacking her.

“Reading the latest Halle Berry Reports, it wasn’t me who hit Halle causing the ear damage,” Justice tweeted Monday. “Halle has never said that I hit her.”

In since-deleted tweets, Justice went on to place the blame on another ex of Berry’s. He also expressed his belief that Berry’s team intentionally did nothing to clear his name when the rumors first started spreading nearly a decade ago. “It was a former Hollywood boyfriend (WS) that she told me ! #getyourfactsright When she first reported that she had been in abusive relationships, she wouldn’t name the “famous” former boyfriend,” Justice tweeted and deleted. “She was mad at me leaving the relationship so she and her Hollywood Team just tried to destroy my character. It had to be my fault, right?” “Yup..Me,Eric,Gabriel and Olivier were all her ‘Knight in Shining Armor’,until it ends..Then we all become the worst guys in history,” Justice continued. “Only the guys in the relationship with Halle know the real deal there will be another, of course. He’ll be called ‘The Best’ until it ends.”

After some wondered what Justice’s motivation was for clearing his name so long after the fact, the athlete explained that he wanted all doubt removed about his guilt for the sake of his wife and kids. “My intention was not to bash Halle, as I specifically said that Halle has NEVER verbally said it. I just wished that when the rumors were out she could’ve squashed them at that time,” Justice said. “I have 3 kids and a wife for 15 years. It was important that my kids knew that their dad didn’t do what has been so regularly reported over the years.” Justice further explained the reasoning behind his rant in an interview. Being a family man and a community coach, he doesn’t want his name wrongfully sullied for abuse. “Having three kids, [ages] 15, 13 and 11, the careless reporting of me being the one who caused her hearing loss is unacceptable,” Justice told Entertainment Tonight. “That was the only purpose of my tweets, really.” “I just felt that if I didn’t say anything about this particular thing, my kids’ friends might read it and assume that it was true,” he continued. “I’m in the community coaching baseball, football and basketball, and I can’t have that.” Perhaps getting wind that Berry has corroborated his claims of innocence, Justice thanked Berry for “squashing all of the rumors” that had followed him around for years.
