David Hyde Pierce, best known for starring on Frasier, is joining the cast of the CBS legal drama The Good Wife.
Pierce's guest-starring role in The Good Wife’s sixth season will see him play a cable news legal commentator, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The highly-respected media man decides to run for elected office, motivated by the ongoing corruption and horrific murder rates in Chicago.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled and flattered that David’s making The Good Wife his first TV role since Frasier,” said showrunners/executive producers Robert and Michelle King. “We’re tremendous fans of his dramatic skills as well as his comedy.”
Pierce won four Emmy Awards playing Dr. Niles Cramer on Frasier, which starred Kelsey Grammar in the titular role. Since the show went off the air in 2004, Pierce voiced a Simpsons character and starred in the comedy thriller The Perfect Host as well as a couple of other smaller projects.
In addition to Pierce, The Good Wife is welcoming Taye Diggs, Steven Pasquale and Connie Nielson for the show’s sixth season.
The Good Wife is coming off a critically-acclaimed fifth season that some have dubbed the series’ best. Though the drama wasn’t up for an Emmy this year, star Julianna Margulies won her second Emmy for portraying politician's wife-turned-high-powered attorney Alicia Florrick.
