Soccer star David Beckham is suing Hollywood A-lister Mark Wahlberg over a fitness deal that left Beckham with a $10 million out-of-pocket loss.
Beckham’s firm, DB Ventures, claims Wahlberg “duped” him into a brand deal with F45 Training that grants Wahlberg 36% interest. Wahlberg is also the chief branding officer. Beckham also claims he was given his share of the brand’s stocks when its price had plummeted, resulting in a significant financial loss for Beckham.
F45 Training is a fitness brand with training centers in 60 countries, including the United States. Beckham became the brand’s global ambassador in 2021 after he moved to Los Angeles and befriended Wahlberg. Beckham and F45 shared several photos of the soccer player endorsing the brand on social media, but those photos have now been removed.
Along with Wahlberg and his investment firm, Mark Wahlberg Investment Group, Beckham is also suing F45 founders Adam Gilchrist and Rob Deutsch. The group attempted to get the case dismissed, claiming Beckham’s lawsuit was “baseless.”
Their motion to dismiss stated, “The 209-page, 610-paragraph SAC [complaint] tries to make up with length what it lacks in merit.”
Beckham is not the only celebrity to have sued F45. Former NFL receiver Terrell Owens sued the brand in 2017 after he claimed they failed to pay him $700,000.
In October 2023, Beckham released a Netflix documentary about his life titled Beckham.
