Dave Grohl Says Foo Fighters Emmy Performance Was Cut

The Foo Fighters were supposed to perform at the 2015 Emmy Awards Sunday night but were kicked out of the program, according to frontman Dave Grohl.

Foo Fighters Performance Cut From The Emmys

Grohl and the Foo Fighters were noticeably absent at the Emmys, considering the group’s HBO documentary series Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways won a pair of Creative Arts Emmys. When asked about their absence, Grohl admitted that not only were they supposed to be there, but they were supposed to perform.

“We were supposed to play on the Emmys, and we gonna play on the Emmys, and then they kicked us off,” Grohl told a TMZ cameraman. When asked what happened, Grohl coyly said, “I can’t tell you. Do your research, but they did.”

After Grohl’s street interview, the band released an official statement through Rolling Stone, explaining that it was a disagreement with Fox that led to the axing of their planned performance.

“The band and the Academy were extremely happy and excited to have Foo Fighters play as the first-ever rock band on the Emmys,” reads the statement. “Fox then refused to allow the band to play a full song from the Emmy-winning Sonic Highways. That is why the band decided not to perform.”

Fox had wanted the Foo Fighters to play parts of both a song from Sonic Highways and the group’s hit “Learn to Fly,” according to TMZ.

Foo Fighters won Emmys for Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Programming and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming for Sonic Highways.
