Dave Grohl Performs “You Are” at Lionel Richie Tribute Concert
With the Grammy’s set to air tonight, the tribute concert to the MusiCares Person of the Year, Lionel Richie took place over the weekend.
Foo Fighters front man, Dave Grohl, took the stage and said, “I know what you’re thinking, how the hell does Dave Grohl know Lionel Richie?” Apparently Richie reached out to Grohl after his broke his leg while on tour last summer.
“When I got out of surgery I was in my hospital room and started getting flowers and get-well cards,” Grohl said. “One day my wife comes into the room and says, ‘Wait till you see the muffin basket that just showed up.’ This was the biggest muffin basket I’ve ever seen, it was like 500 muffins. But I didn’t know who it was from. A few days later, I got a text from my tour manager saying ‘Lionel Richie called and wanted to know if you got that muffin basket?’ Lionel, tonight, I didn’t bring you a muffin basket, I brought you this.”
The front man went on to cover Richies’ “You Are.”
