Dave Grohl performed a special 4th of July concert with the Foo Fighters sitting on a Game of Thrones-style throne required to support his broken leg.
Foo Fighters played a special 4th of July concert in Washington DC to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band’s debut album, Foo Fighters, despite Grohl’s injuries. Grohl appeared at the show, marking his first concert since breaking his leg in June, rocking out on a massive throne. The throne was decorated with guitar necks sitting on top of a giant speaker. The back of the throne was a huge, light-up Foo Fighters sign, surrounded by bright lights. The throne also featured a stand to keep Grohl’s broken leg, adorned with a bright purple cast, elevated during the gig.

Foo Fighters were forced to cancel their European tour dates after Grohl fell and broke his leg while performing in Norway on June 12. Grohl broke his leg during the second song of the concert, and disappeared momentarily to be treated by EMTS before returning and completing the gig. Grohl even performed as medics placed a cast on his injured leg. Following the concert, Grohl went to the hospital, where he received six metal screws in his leg and was told he needed to cancel his remaining European shows.
“…the doctors have told us to cancel shows. I’m really so sorry, guys. You know I hate to do it, but I’m afraid it’s just not physically possible for me at the moment. We’re doing our best right now to work out a plan, so bear with us,” Grohl wrote on the band’s official website.

Grohl was determined to perform at the Washington DC show, however, and even designed his concert throne while he was hospitalized. As Grohl recounted to the massive audience on Saturday, he was “high as a f—king kite” on morphine and oxycontin when he designed the rock throne.
Grohl recounted the incident at the concert, even playing video footage of his fall mid-show.
Needless to say, fans loved it, and even started a hashtag on Twitter “#DaveOfThrones.”
