Daniel Craig: ‘I’d Rather Slit My Wrists’ Than Star In Another James Bond Movie

Daniel Craig really does not want to reprise the coveted role of James Bond in another film after starring in Casino Royale, Skyfall and the forthcoming Spectre.

Craig, 47, made it plain recently that he doesn’t want to play special agent James Bond again.

“I’d rather break this glass and slit my wrists,” Craig told Britain’s Time Out entertainment magazine, when asked if he’d sign on for the part once more. “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. All I want to do is move on.”

In the interview, conducted back in July after filming wrapped on Spectre, Craig went on to explain that he’s tapped out of ideas for the beloved character that’s been the protagonist in 24 feature films.

“Every idea I’ve had for a Bond movie, I’ve stuck into this one. It’s gone in. The Bond bank is dry,” Craig said. “If you’re asking me what would I do with another Bond movie? I haven’t a clue. Go into space? Let’s do it! They already did it. Let’s do it again.”

Craig, who followed the likes of Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery in the part as Bond, has stated for years that he’s more than ready to vacate the franchise role.

“I’ve been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it,” Craig told Rolling Stone in 2012. “But they won’t let me go, and I’ve agreed to do a couple more, but let’s see how this one does, because business is business and if the shit goes down, I’ve got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their ass with.”

With Craig ready to move on, there’s been speculation about who might succeed him. Early favorites have been Luther and The Wire star Idris Elba, Homeland‘s Damien Lewis and even the Australian-born Hugh Jackman.

Spectre hits theaters Nov. 6.
