It was an eventful debut to say the least, for Danica Patrick's first Daytona 500 race on Monday. Not only was it the 29-year-old driver's debut in the 500 mile-long NASCAR race, but it was only her second lap on the track when she crashed her car and had to steer it to safety.

The accident also involved five-time champion Jimmie Johnson, who had been hit by Elliott Sadler. "The wreck was triggered when Elliott Sadler shoved Johnson coming out of the trioval," the NASCAR lap-by-lap website said.

Though Patrick's car shot out some sparks, she was able to safely steer it off the track, and she suffered no injuries, reports People. "Danica made two great dodges to avoid worse damage," said USA Today's blog. She later re-joined the race more than 60 laps behind, and ultimately finished in 38th place.
