‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 24, Week 3 Recap: Charo & Motsepe Sent Home

Dancing with the Stars is starting to heat up, saying goodbye to the season’s first elimination couple last night.

DANCING WITH THE STARS WEEK 3 RECAP

The theme of the evening was Vegas, and the dances were full of feather boas and tons of glitter. First up were Bachelor Nick Viall and his partner Peta Murgatroyd dancing to “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga. While this definitely wouldn’t be the worst dance of the night, it was clearly not the best. Viall had trouble keeping up with the choreography, and wound up with a 26/40.

Mr. T was up next, dancing with Kym Herjavec. Doing a foxtrot to Robbie Williams‘ “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head,” Mr. T looked very different to his usual self, glammed up in a white tuxedo and feather earring. While definitely entertaining, the less-than-elegant dance earned them just a 24/40.

Next up we saw Bonner Bolton and Sharna Burgess doing the Charleston to “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” by Fergie, GoonRock, and Q-Tip. Bolton was in way over his head, and judge Carrie Ann applauded that he “didn’t give up,” which is possibly the worst comment a dancer could get in week 3. They score a 24/40.

Heather Morris and partner Alan Bersten were the first good dance of the night, performing a tango to Britney Spears‘ “Toxic.” The judges love the chemistry, the musicality, and the subtlety of the routine, and render it a 33/40.

Then Charo and Keo Motsepe come out with a mediocre Foxtrot to The Dixie Cups “Chapel of Love.” This coupling has been fraught with drama from the get-go, and it’s no better this week. They score a 24/40.

Early favorite Simone Biles and her partner Sasha Farber do a difficult quickstep to Elvis Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas.” The fun number is just what Biles needed, having been critiqued for  her lack of emotion in the past. The quickstep allows her to smile and have fun, something the judges were looking for. They awarded the couple with a 32/40.

Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev wow the judges with a fun samba to “Shake Your Bon-Bon” by Ricky Martin. Everyone, from the judges to Martin himself, loves this routine, yet somehow the pair ends up with just a 33/40.

David Ross and Lindsay Arnold, with a dance different from everything else, do a jazz routine to 50 Cent‘s “Candy Shop.” The choreography is inspired by Magic Mike Live and featured Ross in bedazzled boxer shorts. The judges assure the couple that the dance was not only entertaining, but also a good dance. They earn a 31/40.

Next up are Erika Jayne and Gleb Savchenko, taking on a jive to “Take Me to Heaven” by Patina MillerDebbie Kurup, and Amy Booth-Steel. There a few few moments when the pair fall out of sync, but Jayne puts on a good show, and earns them an ok 26/40.

Football player Rashad Jennings is next up, dancing the samba to Jason Derulo‘s “Swalla” with his partner Emma Slater. After last weeks sexy win with the Viennese waltz, the couple has big shoes to fill. They come close, but fall just short, earning a 28/40.

Last up we see Normani Kordei and Valentin Chmerkovskiy dance the foxtrot to Shirley Bassey’s “Big Spender.” Despite a few minor technique errors, the judges are overall very impressed, and give them the best score of the night – 34/40.

While there were multiple scores in the low 20s, the team that goes home at the end of the night is Charo and Motsepe. Their chemistry is just not there, and the judges have to let Charo go.

Tune in next week for a whole new round of fun dancing. DWTS airs Mondays at 8 pm on ABC.
