‘Dancing With The Stars’ Finale Recap: Rumer Willis & Val Chmerkovskiy Named Winners

Dancing With the Stars returned Tuesday night with the finals, wrapping up its 20th season and 10th year on the air with Rumer Willis, Riker Lynch and Noah Galloway competing for the Mirror Ball Trophy

Dancing With The Stars Recap: Rumer Willis & Val Chmerkovskiy Winners

The festivities kicked off outside the studio with all of the this year’s celebrity dancers and their pro partners participating in a group number choreographed by Mandy Moore. The routine was followed by a recap of Monday night’s final performances and some behind the scenes footage.

After Riker and Allison did an encore performance of their freestyle routine, Red Foo performed his song “Juicy Wiggle” while his pro partner Emma Slater danced around the stage. Charlotte McKinney and Keo Motsepe danced to “California Girls” and Alfonso Ribiero and Britt Robertson teamed up for a dance, after which host Tom Bergeron announced that the Fresh Prince alum will be taking over his hosting duties for America’s Funniest Home Videos.

Suzanne Somers and Tony Dovolani reunited for their “Copacobana” routine, followed by real-life loves Robert Herjavec and Kim Johnson taking to the dance floor. Then, singer Jason DeRulo took over the stage for his song “Want to Want Me.”

More dances followed, including a group performance with Derek Hough, Sharna, Noah and former contestant Amy Purdy. Chris Soules and Whitney Carson reprised their Footloose-themed dance, while Derek, Nastia Liukin and Sasha Farber did their subway routine and Willow Shields and Mark Ballas brought back their crowd-pleasing Alice in Wonderland dance from Disney week.

Girl group Fifth Harmony then performed their new single “Worth It” while the female troupe dancers put on a choreographed routine.

Following Fifth Harmony’s performance, Derek and Julianne Hough teamed up with look-a-like young dancers for a moving dance to Sia‘s “Elastic Heart.”

After Patti LaBelle and Artem Chigvintsev did a dance, it was time for the 24-Hour Fusion Challenge for the three finalists.

Noah & Sharna: Noah and Sharna were tasked with a Cha-Cha/Argentine Tango Fusion. Dressed all in white, the two did a fine job, but it mostly looked like more of the same from the two. Noah pulled off a couple of impressive lifts, but other than that it was pretty lackluster. The judges all complimented Noah’s improvement and resilience. Scores: 9+9+9+9

Riker & Allison: Riker and Allison had to combine a Salsa with a Quickstep in 24 hours and did so admirably. Allison’s choreography seamlessly blended the two dances into one cohesive routine and Riker, as always, brought precision and showmanship. All of the judges agree that Riker was as fun to watch as ever. Scores: 10+10+10+10

Rumer and Val: Finally, Rumer and Val took to the stage for their fusion – a Fox Trot/Paso Doble. Like Riker and Allison’s routine, this one was smooth all the way through. Rumer, who likely has the best technique of them all, showed her skill and comfort on the dance floor with her final DWTS dance. The judges agreed that she should be the winner. Scores: 10+10+10+10

Before the results were announced Patti LaBelle returns to the stage to sing “2 Steps Away.”

Results: Host Tom Bergeron, after some dramatic delay, announced that Noah Galloway had home in third. And, the winner of the Season 20 Mirror Ball Trophy is Rumer Willis, meaning Riker Lynch placed in second.
