Conservative media outlet The Daily Wire, known for its right-wing political commentary, had a public dispute between two of its most prominent figures, Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens.
Shapiro, the site’s co-founder, and Owens, a host of one of its podcasts, have exchanged back-and-forth messages on the X platform, formally known as Twitter.
It started when Owens wrote of the Israel-Hamas War: “No government anywhere has a right to commit a genocide, ever. There is no justification for a genocide. I can’t believe this even needs to be said or is even considered the least bit controversial to state.”
Over the past couple of weeks, the Israeli government has been bombing the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians, many of whom were children, after Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel killed 1,200.
Although many praised her stance, others criticized her tweet and accused her of being antisemitic.
Shapiro, known as a staunch supporter of the Israeli government, lashed out at his colleague: “The question is about Candace Owens…her behavior during this has been disgraceful, without a doubt.”
Owens, who is a Christian woman, shared Bible verses on X.
She quoted Matthew 5:9: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Shapiro then responded to the tweet, “Candace, if you feel that taking money from The Daily Wire somehow comes between you and God, by all means quit.”
“You are utterly out of line for suggesting that I cannot quote biblical scripture. The Bible is not about you,” Owens replied.
In a separate tweet, Owens called out Shaprio for acting “unprofessional and emotionally unhinged for weeks.”
Owen is known for getting into social media wars, including with Cardi B and Olivia Wilde.
