SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - JUNE 04: A Golden Orb spider walks through it's web in front of the full moon June 3, 2007 in Sydney Australia. World Environment Day is marked on June 5 every year, and is the United Nations flagship environmental event, celebrated in more than 100 countries around the world. The event was first established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly, with the purpose being to concentrate global attention on the importance of the environment and to encourage political attention and action. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), greenhouse gas emissions from human activities are causing the planet to increase in temperature. Carbon dioxide concentrations in the planetary atmosphere are higher now than at any time for the past 600,000 years, and the rate of increase is accelerating. (Photo by Ian Waldie/Getty Images)
Desirae Kelly‘s viral TikTok video detailed her “traumatic” experience with a spider in her ear.
The 29-year-old woke up around 4:45 a.m. on October 18 to an “uneasy feeling” in her ear.
She dismissed the feeling and thought it was just the tassels on her comforter until she felt something move. When the fluttering began, she couldn’t ignore it anymore.
Despite the discomfort, Kelly decided to wait until 8 a.m. for the ER to open.
She was afraid of hurting herself even more if she tried the home remedies.
Once she arrived, the medical professionals reassured her she did the right thing.
She began to worry that her visit to the ER was for something as minor as ear wax, but then she felt a sharp pain.
“I started to cry in the waiting room,” she confessed, describing her intense discomfort. When the nurse looked inside her ear, she confirmed Kelly’s fear.
There was a bug curled up inside her ear.
As soon as she received the news, she began to cry.
The nurse tried to calm her down and reassured her that it was a simple flushing procedure and that they do it all the time.
Kelly nodded along, thankful to the nurse, but she was not afraid about the painful procedure – she was afraid of what they would find inside her ear.
During an ear-flushing procedure, a large, live-jumping spider landed on her sweater. Shocked and horrified, Kelly’s first instinct was to flee, leaving the office panicked.
As she ran, she clutched her chest and tried to breathe. She couldn’t talk – all she could say was, “Spider.”
Then she threw up as she watched the nurses put the spider in a container.
It hadn’t registered to Kelly that she had a panic attack until after the fact, so in the moment, she felt mainly embarrassed.
“Every night since that night, I have had earplugs in my ears,” she says in her TikTok, “I don’t think I could ever sleep without earplugs again.”
