‘The View’ Host Sunny Hostin’s Husband, Emmanuel Hostin, Fights Insurance Fraud Lawsuit Alone After His Co-Defendants Settle Cases
Emmanuel Hostin, the husband of The View co-host Sunny Hostin, is currently fighting his own battle in his insurance fraud lawsuit while the other co-defendants volunteered to settle their cases.
Emmanuel, who was named one of the defendants in the high-profile racketeering case in New York, stands accused of engaging in fraudulent medical practices to secure kickbacks from an insurance company.
The lawsuit, filed in December 2024, asserts that he was involved in a scheme where he performed surgeries, particularly arthroscopic procedures, and then billed an insurance company covering Uber, Lyft and taxi drivers.
The companies’ owner, American Transit, claims these actions were part of a bigger scheme involving fraudulent billing practices that led to significant financial losses for the company.
The orthopedic surgeon is among 200 defendants accused of fraud in the case, and American Transit is demanding $450 million in damages.
According to a new court filing, however, Emmanuel is now isolated after most defendants have offered to settle their cases.
American Transit announced on Jan. 27 that over 141 of the 186 defendants named in the suit agreed to settle their cases in principle. The papers, filed by the law firm Manning Kass, did not point out which defendants agreed to settle. The surgeon has until February 10 to reply to the legal complaint.
In a statement, Hostin family lawyer Mark Geragos insisted that Emmanuel was not involved in any wrongdoing and demanded that American Transit apologize to him and his family.
“Dr. Emmanuel Hostin should not have been named as a defendant in this lawsuit, and American Transit must dismiss him from the lawsuit with prejudice,” Geragos also mentioned.
“American Transit must offer a full and unequivocal apology to Dr. Hostin and his wife, Sunny Hostin and their two children for this unfortunate mistake,” he declared.
“American Transit must also pay Dr. Hostin what he is owed for his medical services to the insureds, and substantial damages must be paid to Dr. Hostin and his family for reputational damage and emotional distress caused before they will consider any settlement,” the Hostin family lawyer asserted.
In a statement in late January, Sunny defended her husband against American Transit, saying that the company only took legal action as a “desperate attempt to avoid paying for medical and surgical procedures for people it insured who were in pain.”
She also said that the company “has a history of filing frivolous claims, has been investigated by New York State and has been sued by Uber Technologies.”
The co-host of The View also noted that “in an attempt to poison the well of public opinion because it does not have a valid case against [her] husband, American Transit instead used [her] celebrity status to start a disgusting media smear campaign against [Emmanuel], which included [her] and [their] children.”
