Kaitlin Armstrong, a woman believed to be the killer of professional cyclist Annah Moriah “Mo” Wilson is still at large after authorities had to release her from questioning due to a clerical error in their arrest warrant. She fled the state of Texas in the following days and was last seen at Newark airport.
In a Monday press conference, the U.S. Marshals Service said that Armstrong’s last known location was the Newark airport, where she was seen on May 18. They noted that no trip reservations were made in her name that day, so she could still be in the New Jersey area, or she simply got a ticket in someone else’s name.
“The best thing she can do at this point, wherever she is, is surrender to authorities, so she can return safely to Austin and answer the charges against her,” said Susan Pamerlau, U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Texas. “She needs to know the Marshals are not going to stop looking for her.”
Police believe that the shooting was motivated by jealousy, as Wilson had a relationship with Colin Strickland while he and Armstrong were briefly broken up. He had dropped Wilson off at her house without entering it, and she was later found with gunshot wounds by police on the evening of May 11. Armstrong was implicated in the shooting because her vehicle was reportedly spotted near Wilson’s around that time by surveillance video.
It was first determined that Armstrong flew to LaGuardia Airport in New York City from Austin International Bergstrom Airport in the afternoon of May 14, soon after she was released from police custody. She was booked on separate misdemeanor charges, and ended the interview after her proximity to the shooting was asked about. She was able to leave because her birth date was entered incorrectly on her arrest warrant.
She now faces warrants for homicide as well as “unlawful flight to avoid prosecution,” which was more recently filed on May 25. The U.S. Marshals have also offered a $5,000 reward for anyone with knowledge as to her whereabouts, but they noted that Armstrong should be considered armed and dangerous.
