Rock icon Lenny Kravitz has revealed he has been living a celibate lifestyle for nearly a decade as part of a profound spiritual journey. The 60-year-old musician, long known as a sex symbol, says he hasn’t had any intimate relations in nine years as he focuses on personal growth.

In a candid interview with The Guardian, Kravitz traced his celibacy back to reflections on his father Sy’s infidelity toward his mother Roxie Roker during their marriage. The “American Woman” singer admitted he once feared following in his dad’s footsteps after his 1991 divorce from actress Lisa Bonet.

“It took me years to grow out of being a player,” Kravitz confessed. “I didn’t want to live that way anymore. I’ve attained a level of wisdom, enlightenment and peace that I’ve never had before.”

The four-time Grammy winner says his current nine-year period of celibacy stems from a desire to prioritize his spiritual side over casual flings. “It’s a spiritual thing,” he explained. “I’ve become very set in my ways, in the way I live.”

Kravitz hasn’t been in a serious relationship throughout this celibate stretch either. His past loves include French singer Vanessa Paradis, as well as broken engagements to model Adriana Lima and Nicole Kidman.

While the rock star hasn’t ruled out ending his celibacy for the right woman, he seems content focusing on his inner journey for now. “Challenge on!” he quipped when asked if he’s looking to become sexually active again.

Some are already aiming to be the one to end Kravitz’s celibate streak, including CBS Morning host Gayle King. During a recent interview, King playfully flirted “I’ll have sex with you!” after learning of his nine-year abstinence.
