Rosie O’Donnell Says She Feels ‘Safer’ Since Leaving U.S. For Ireland Because Of Trump’s Election
Comedian Rosie O’Donnell shared that she has felt healthier and safer since she left the U.S. and moved to Ireland after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election. Last week, O’Donnell explained in a video that she left America on Jan. 15, five days before Trump’s inauguration, due to her concern about his presidency.
She stated that she and her family would consider returning “when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America.”

On Mar. 20, O’Donnell posted a video on her TikTok page describing how she felt better after leaving the U.S.
“It’s not easy to move to another country, and we really felt that, as a family, this was the safest and best thing for us to do,” she stated in the video. “And it looks like, sadly, we were correct for what’s happening in the United States is overwhelmingly depressing, unconstitutional, illegal, criminal, and so, so very sad. Let’s hope that the world and the nations rallies against the current administration and their horrific ideas for what will make America great again. It’s not racism, and it’s not homophobia, and it’s equality for all. That’s what we’re promised as American citizens, so let’s all remember that.”

O’Donnell noted that she was feeling “healthier” and that she was “sleeping better without the stress and anxiety over what was happening politically in [America]” and the fact she was no longer being “singled out by the President of the United States” ever since he was elected.
The comedian then recalled the years-long “feud” between her and Trump.
“I was a host of The View, and it was my job to talk about current events and politics, and when I told the truth about [Trump], he went nutzo,” O’Donnell recounted. “And it’s been 17, 18 years of it already, and I’m sick of it, and I didn’t want to live with it while he was back in office, and I knew I couldn’t, and I knew that it would really tax me emotionally to have to do that.”
“So I’m very happy that we made the decision that we made, and I’m really, really hopeful that Americans are going to see – the Americans who voted for him – just how cruel he is and do something that will stop him,” she added. “And there has to be smarter people than me in the world. There are millions who are in positions of power who can affect change.”
