Rapper DMX has been on life support since Sunday after he was hospitalized in New York. His former manager, Nakia Walker, told the New York Times that the rapper was in a “vegetative state.”

DMX, who’s real name is Earl Simmons, was rushed to the hospital from his White Plains, New York home on Friday after suffering a heart attack. “We’re just praying,” Walker added.

“He is truly an amazing person,” DMX’s attorney, Murray Richman told PIX11 News. “He walked into a room, he lit up the room. He couldn’t help making you feel good in his presence.”

“He expressed the pain and suffering in a unique way,” Richman addressed the rapper’s “difficult life” that she shared in his music. “He truly is reflective of a whole segment of our society whose pain and suffering go unrecorded.”

DMX, who is still on life support but breathing on his own, Richman was still worried about his client. “It would be disingenuous for me to suggest that I’m not a worried man at this particular point,” Richman said.

DMX’s biggest hits were 1999’s “Party Up” and 2003’s “X Son’ Give It To Ya.” His first four albums debuted at No. 1 on Billboards charts, the first to achieve that accomplishment.

While his music was highly successful, the rapper still had multiple run-ins with the law. He’s been arrested on charges of fraud, assault, weapon and narcotics possession and driving under the influence without a license. In 2008, the pleaded guilty to charges of animal cruelty, drug possession and theft.

Over the weekend, fellow musicians took to Twitter to send prayers and support for DMX.

“Prayers out 2 @DMX & his family!!,” wrote Eminem. “True legend!! Pullin 4 u please stay strong!!”

“DMX prayed over me once and I could feel his anointing. I’m praying for his full recover,” Chance the Rapper tweeted.
