Michigan GOP Senate Candidate Mike Rogers Is A Registered Voter In Florida

Former Michigan Rep. Mike Rogers (R), the leading candidate for the Michigan Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, was revealed to be a registered voter in Florida.

Rogers represented Michigan’s eighth congressional district from 2001 to 2015. As a native of the state, he hopes to once again represent Michigan in Congress.

“I’m proud to be born and raised right here in Michigan,” he wrote in an X post. “And I will be proud to serve my home in the U.S. Senate.”

The tweet caused Austin Cook, the communications director for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate and Rogers’ rival, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan), to post a screenshot of the former representative’s voter registration record.

The record shows a Florida ZIP code and that he has “active” voter status in Cape Coral, Florida.

It also shows that he registered to vote in Florida on January 24, 2022.

“Fun fact: @MikeRogersForMI is literally registered to vote in Florida right now,” Cook wrote in this post.

Rogers owns a $1.7 million, 4,751-square-foot home in Cape Coral, which was his official residence until he chose to run for the U.S. Senate.

Public records show that he was given a $50,000 homestead tax exemption on the property for 2022.

The records also show that he requested a renovation permit that same year worth $327,000. This was more than the cost of his one-bedroom, 728-square-foot home in White Lake Township, Michigan, which he bought for $295,000 on July 10, 2023.

According to Lee County, Florida, property assessment records, this home is in the name of Rogers, his wife, Kristi Rogers and their family trust.

A spokesperson for Rogers’ U.S. Senate campaign confirmed that he lives at his sister-in-law, Deborah Miller’s Brighton house, pending renovations on the White Lake property.

According to the Constitution, to run for U.S. Senate, a candidate needs to be an American citizen for at least nine years, be no less than 30 years old and be a legal resident of the state they hope to represent during the time of election.

Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Rogers in the Michigan U.S. Senate Republican primary to be held in August.

The Michigan Republican Party has been in disarray for the last year.

In January, state Chairwoman Kristina Karamo became the focus of controversy after the party went bankrupt, causing the party to split into two competing groups.

On January 6, a group of renegade state Republicans voted to replace Karamo. The decision to remove her happened in a closed-door meeting in Oakland County, Michigan. The Michigan GOP chairwoman’s administration then declared that state committee members voted to keep her with a vote of 59-1. A court ruling eventually sided with the renegades and ousted Karamo.
