Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, known for her appearances on the reality show Mama June: Family Crisis, has filed for divorce from her husband of six years, Josh Efird. The 24-year-old reality star submitted divorce papers on August 1, citing a “bona fide state of separation” since July.
The couple, who share four young children, have agreed to joint legal and physical custody, according to court documents. Their parenting plan, previously established, will remain in effect. Both parties have waived the right to request child support.
As part of the settlement, Josh Efird, 28, has been given a 60-day window to remove his belongings from the family’s Georgia home. Lauryn will retain ownership of the property.
The divorce comes as a surprise to fans who have followed the couple’s relationship on television. Lauryn had previously praised her husband’s parenting skills on social media, describing him in a June 2022 post as the “BEST father I’ve known.” She also expressed gratitude for his role in raising her younger sister, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson.
The current season of Mama June: Family Crisis has featured the Efirds’ relationship, but has primarily focused on the family’s struggle with the recent loss of Lauryn’s older sister, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell. Anna passed away in December at age 29, following a battle with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma.
In a recent episode, Lauryn opened up about her ongoing grief, expressing concern about potential setbacks in her emotional recovery.
The divorce announcement comes amid family speculation about Mama June Shannon’s own marriage to Justin Stroud. In an April episode of the show, Lauryn and Alana discussed their mother’s relationship, suggesting that ongoing issues and dishonesty could potentially lead to its demise.
As the Efirds navigate their separation, fans of the reality show will likely see the aftermath unfold in future episodes. The divorce marks another significant change for the family, which has faced numerous challenges in the public eye over the years.
In 2021, Pumpkin spoke to uInterview exclusively about her mother’s struggles. “Last season she finished rehab,” Pumpkin said, “and now this season we kind of pick back up at that place, and now her and Geno seem to be in a better place, but now they’re trying to actually get through the recovery process, not just the rehab this time.”
