Mayor of Malibu Bruce Silverstein blasted Kourtney Kardashian‘s team for lying to the city about the nature of her event in order to obtain a permit to host a promotional party for her wellness brand, Poosh.

The Poolside with Poosh party was held at a mansion in Malibu, California, on Saturday.

Silverstein wrote a lengthy post on Facebook entitled “City of Malibu Continues to Place Celebrities and the Uber Wealthy Over Residents: City Staff Sells Out to Kardashians and Grants Emergency Expedited Permit for Large Event in a Vacant Single-Family Home in Private Neighborhood.”

Silverstein asserts that Kardashian’s event planner claimed the rental was for a baby shower when, in reality, it was used as a venue to promote Kardashian’s wellness brand.

Silverstein wrote, “I understand that the event has been represented to be a baby shower that is being hosted by the owner of the property. Both of those representations are contrary to what the event planner told me — which was that the house is being ‘rented’ for an ‘influencer event.”

Silverstein says that he noticed the preparations for the event earlier this week. When he inquired with the organizers, he was told it was part of an influencer event. Silverstein informed the organizers that a special permit is required to throw those types of gatherings, and followed up with city staff to see whether they’d been contacted.

Silverstein says that the city approved a Special Events Permit for the workers on behalf of Poosh, an approval that must have been green-lit at record time, and he suspects were under false pretenses.

A variety of mainstream brands, including Cover Girl, Valmont Cosmetics and Sally Hansen nail polish, paid Kardashian to be a part of the event. Silverstein claimed that some 600 guests had come and gone over the course of the event. It is unknown if Kardashian was present at the event.

“As an elected official…I am appalled by the situation, and it helps me understand what residents throughout the city are dealing with,” Silverstein wrote.

Silverstein wants an internal investigation into the permit and how it was obtained. He also wants to know whether any city employees were complicit in the alleged fraud.
