Joe Jonas Hits Back At Estranged Wife Sophie Turner’s Claim He ‘Abducted’ Their Kids

Sophie Turner, 27, claimed that her estranged husband, Joe Jonas, 34, had withheld their two children’s passports and refused to allow them to visit her in the U.K. 

The Jonas Brothers member officially filed for divorce in September, after four years of marriage to the Game Of Thrones star. The filing stated that their relationship was “irretrievably broken.”

In an Instagram post, the couple addressed the break-up, “There are many speculative narratives as to why but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”

Jonas met Turner in 2016 via Instagram, and the couple went public with their romance on New Year’s Day 2017. By October, they announced they were engaged. They were married on May 1, 2019, at a surprise ceremony that followed the Billboard Music Awards. On June 29, 2019, they were wed again in Sarrians, France. They have two children. Their eldest, Willa, was born in July 2021, and they welcomed a second child (whose name has remained private) in July 2022.

Turner has asserted that she and Jonas had made an agreement in December 2022  to make England their “forever home,” and were in the process of buying a house in April. In September, Turner came to New York and expected to return home to England with their kids. In response to Jonas’ alleged refusal to follow plans, she filed for the lawsuit and cited the Hague Convention – an international treaty that handles child abduction across country lines. 

Turner also said she “found out through the media” that Jonas had filed for divorce, but the singer’s rep issued a statement to media outlets claiming that the actress had been informed of the filing.

Jonas’ lawyer said his client wanted “shared parenting” of their children, and they were never “abducted.” “When language like “abduction” is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst,” the rep said.

Turner is trying to move the divorce proceedings to the U.K. and leave the U.S. permanently. In recent days, Turner has been seen out twice this week with pop star Taylor Swift, who is also an ex of Jonas and famously wrote a song about being dumped by him.
