Controversial Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) shocked people during the recent New York Young Republican Club’s annual gala by having too much alcohol and being asked to stop taking selfies with fromer President Donald Trump.
On April 5, CNN reporter Melanie Zanona reported that during a panel that Boebert “has been facing really pointed questions about her personal behavior and her conduct.”
“But there are signs that she has not changed or tried to tone down her behavior, at least behind closed doors,” Zanona noted.
“I’m told that she attended a December gala in New York City – it was a Republican event Donald Trump was headlining – and that the server who was coming to bring alcohol refused to bring her any more alcohol because they thought that she was overserved,” she recounted.
“She also was trying to take pictures with Donald Trump, and eventually, Donald Trump’s security detail stepped in and asked her to stop doing that, according to witnesses who witnessed it and [those] I spoke to now,” she added.
“Donald Trump still did endorse her,” Zanona stated. “So clearly he wasn’t – maybe – that bothered by this incident.”
“But a Trump endorsement alone is not going to be enough to put her over the finish line,” she declared. “So she is facing a very tough challenge in that June primary.” The Colorado congressional primary will take place on June 25.
“But like I said, she’s still got to go up against these other very pro-Trump Republican candidates in this district who are actually from the district and don’t have as much baggage,” she noted.
Boebert is facing tricky situation in Colorado’s fourth district as Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colorado) resigned and forced a special election to occur on the same day as the primary election to see which Republican was going to be the standard bearer in the district.
A GOP panel chose one of the representative’s allies to stand in the special election and serve as a placeholder. At the same time, she is working on gaining the nomination for the general this November after switching from a more competitive district which she won by just 300 votes in 2020.
On Jan. 25, Boebert finished fifth place in a straw poll, ranking the candidates running in the Republican primary for Colorado’s fourth congressional district.
In March, Boebert was mocked on social media for attracting a small crowd to a Colorado GOP speaking event.
Boebert has endured numerous scandals in the last year.
Earlier this month, her son was arrested for robbing a woman with a brain tumor. In January, her estranged husband accused her of punching him (he later dropped his charges). In September, Boebert apologized for lying about vaping in the theater after previously denying it.
