In a local TV interview, former President Donald Trump revealed a list of four people he is considering as vice presidential candidates.
In an interview with News 12 News Jersey, following his campaign rally in The Bronx, New York, political reporter, Tara Rosenblum asked if Trump was considering former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who declared last week that she would vote for him in the 2024 presidential election.
“A big night last night, Nikki Haley making her first public remarks since dropping out of the race,” the reporter asked. “She said that Joe Biden has been a catastrophe, and she’s voting for you. I’m sure those were welcome remarks for you, but they also left a lot of people wondering if there is room for her on your team or, better yet, your ticket.”
“Well, I think she’s going to be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts,” Trump responded. “I appreciated what she said. You know, we had a nasty campaign. It was pretty nasty. But she’s a very capable person, and I’m sure she’s gonna be on our team in some form. Absolutely.”
“So if not Nikki, then who,” Rosenblum asked Trump.
“Let’s make some news tonight, you and I, for your hometown TV station,” Rosenblum stated. “Share with me, share with me your top three candidates for your running mate at this point.”
“Well, we have so many,” Trump responded. “I don’t want to do that, but we have so many. You could take people like Ben Carson. You could take people like [Sen.] Marco Rubio [(R-Florida)], [Sen.] JD Vance [(R-Ohio)].”
“I mean, there are so many,” he said. “[Rep. Elise] Stefanik (R-New York) is doing a fantastic job here. But I could go on for quite a long time. We have many people that would do a really fantastic job.”
Rosenblum asked the former president, “Do you have a timeline for making the decision?”
Trump replied that he would choose his running mate at some point during the Republican National Convention.
In late 2023, there was speculation that Trump would choose former Fox News host Tucker Carlson as his running mate.
Carlson responded by declaring that while he was “flattered” by the idea, he found it as likely as an “asteroid striking the Earth.”
During a town hall event held in Greenville, South Carolina, in late February, Trump revealed a list of possible running mates and reiterated his influence within the Republican Party. In a conversation with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, he discussed the speculated candidates on his vice presidential shortlist.
Among these were three ex-GOP candidates: Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida). The former president also confirmed the inclusion of Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Florida), Gov. Kristi Noem (R-South Dakota) and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii).
While Trump verified that these individuals were absolutely under consideration, he did not offer a specific timeline for his decision announcement. However, he expressed his confidence in their abilities, stating they all are “good” and “solid.”
Trump also highlighted his desire for a running mate who can connect with voters and display “common sense” on critical issues like immigration, electric vehicles and inflation.
