Celine Dion Sings In Public For The First Time Since Diagnosis With Stiff Person Syndrome

Nearly a year ago, iconic singer Celine Dion was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune movement disorder known as Stiff Person Syndrome.

It is an illness that causes people’s bodies to become stiff. There is no cure for it yet, but Dion assured her fans that she has an “incredible team of doctors” behind her and is not giving up.

The illness has forced the artist to cancel the Courage World Tour. Dion has been open about how her disease has affected her voice and how she no longer sounds the same and has lost control over her voice.

“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life,” Dion said, “sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”

She announced the cancelation through an Instagram post. “I am sorry to disappoint everyone once again,” she said.

Dion was seen recently at an NHL game with her three sons, 22-year-old Rene-Charles Angélil and 13-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson Angélil, at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vagas to support her hometown team, the Montreal Canadians.

This was her first public appearance since 2019. Dion also surprised the team by singing “a few notes.”

The VP of hockey communications, Chantal Machabée, said the performance was incredible and that Dion is an amazing woman.

“I know she has good days and not so good days, but this was a very good day, and it was reassuring,” Machabée said.
