Singer Celine Dion is preparing for a triumphant return to the stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.
Sources close to the event planning suggest that Dion, 56, is slated to perform a single song during the ceremony and receive a rumored paycheck of $2 million. The Grammy-winning artist has been largely absent from public performances since revealing her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder.
Dion’s potential appearance at the Olympics has garnered significant attention, especially after she was spotted in Paris earlier this week. Fans swarmed the “My Heart Will Go On” singer outside the Royal Monceau hotel, fueling speculation about her involvement in the Games.
This wouldn’t be Dion’s first Olympic performance. She previously graced the stage at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics opening ceremony, where she sang “The Power of the Dream.”
NBC’s Hoda Kotb recently hinted at Dion’s possible Olympic engagement during a Watch What Happens Live appearance. Kotb recounted an off-camera moment during a property tour with Dion, where the singer seemed eager to share news about an upcoming performance but was stopped by her team.
In a June interview accompanying the release of her documentary I Am: Celine Dion, the artist expressed her determination to return to performing. “I’m going to go back onstage, even if I have to crawl,” Dion stated, emphasizing her passion for music and her fans.
The documentary, available on Prime Video, offers an intimate look at Dion’s battle with stiff-person syndrome and her journey toward a potential comeback. It showcases her challenges and unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.
The Paris Olympics are scheduled to begin on July 26, 2024, with the opening ceremony along the Seine River.
