American Airlines Flight Attendant Accused of Attempting To Record Teen In The Lavatory

During a September 2 flight, a North Carolina teenager found a taped iPhone to an airplane toilet on an American Airlines flight.

The family of the 14-year-old sued the airline, alleging that a flight attendant had been the one to tape the iPhone to record the teenager using the restroom.

The family had bought tickets in the economy section on a flight from Charlotte to Boston. During the flight, the teenager needed to use the bathroom and tried to use the ones in the economy section.

A male flight attendant instead directed her to the first-class cabin. He entered the bathroom first, saying he needed to wash his hands. When he came out, he told the girl that the seat was broken but not to worry about it.

After using the toilet, the girl realized an iPhone was hidden underneath a red airline tape that read “Remove from service.” She noticed it because the camera flash was on.

In the family’s lawsuit, the girl described feeling “shocked and scared.”

“It immediately occurred to her that someone had put the phone there to film her using the toilet,” the suit said.

She then took a picture of the toilet to use as evidence.

The family’s lawyers admit that the flight attendant did not have any incriminating images on his phone, suggesting that he removed the phone and pictures of the girl before letting her father see his iPhone photos.

The girl is now in therapy for her trauma.

The airline released a statement addressing the situation, “We take this matter very seriously and have been fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation, as safety and security are our highest priorities.”

According to the airline, the flight attendant has been “withheld from service” immediately following the reported incident.
