Alex Rodriguez, former New York Yankees player and ex-fiancé of Jennifer Lopez, shared a mysterious social media post, coinciding with news of Lopez filing for divorce from actor Ben Affleck.

Rodriguez posted a quote on his Instagram Stories that read, “You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction.” The message, attributed to Rodriguez himself, appeared in blue text against a tan background and was originally shared by The Concept, a New York-based creative agency.

The timing of Rodriguez’s post raised eyebrows, as it came on the same day Lopez, filed for divorce from Affleck, after two years of marriage. Lopez reportedly filed the paperwork without legal representation.

Rodriguez and Lopez ended their two-year engagement in early 2021, shortly before Lopez rekindled her relationship with Affleck. Despite the high-profile breakup, Rodriguez has maintained a respectful stance toward his ex-fiancée.

In a 2022 interview on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, Rodriguez spoke positively about his time with Lopez, saying, “It was a good experience, and I wish her and the children — who are smart, and beautiful and wonderful — the very best.” Lopez is mother to 16-year-old twins, while Rodriguez has two daughters, ages 19 and 16, from a previous marriage.

Since their split, Rodriguez has moved on romantically. In December 2022, he confirmed his relationship with Jac Cordeiro. The couple recently celebrated Rodriguez’s 49th birthday with a yacht vacation alongside his daughters.

Meanwhile, Lopez and Affleck’s whirlwind romance culminated in two weddings in 2022 — a private Las Vegas ceremony in July and a larger celebration in Georgia in August. Lopez filed for divorce exactly two years after their second wedding.

On the day of the divorce filing, Affleck was spotted in Connecticut, helping his eldest daughter move into Yale University for her freshman year. He returned to Los Angeles later that same day.

Throughout their relationship, Lopez has been open about drawing inspiration from her rekindled romance with Affleck. This was evident in her recent album and visual film, This Is Me… Now, as well as the documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told.

“When we got back together, I felt very inspired,” Lopez told E! News in January. She added that she believes in sharing life lessons through her art, noting, “Life can be heartbreaking, and it can also be elating, and can also be very funny sometimes when you look back at it.”
