Bill Belichick, the former coach for the New England Patriots, joined the social media platform Instagram.

Belichick had not been known for loving social media. He combined Snapchat and Facebook, creating “Snapface,” while speaking during a now infamous rant.

During press conferences, he misidentified social media platforms to suggest that he knew nothing about them, but few people believed his supposed ignorance.

On Wednesday, Belichick announced his new Instagram account during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show, a talk show on which he appears weekly.

“I can’t really believe I’m doing this, but I’ve joined Instaface,” he declared to sports analyst Pat McAfee during the interview.

The ex-Patriots coach explained why he joined the platform in a video that became his first Instagram post.

“Hello, everyone,” Belichick stated in the video posted on Wednesday afternoon. “Surprised to see me here? Well, I am, too. Over the past few months, I have not had the opportunity to express my thoughts at a moment’s notice, and I have not been with a team. So now I’m changing that. I tried to join Snapface, but I couldn’t find it. I decided this was a good place for me to land so I could talk to you and share what I’m up to. Because there’s a lot going on. So here I am. Hello, Instaface. See you soon.”

This video was part of a carousel post, and a typed statement from Belichick was included in the second post.

“During my career in the NFL, I had built-in opportunities to express myself at a moment’s notice,” the ex-coach mentioned in the statement. “The circumstances are different now. So, here I am.”

“I am (surprisingly) thrilled to announce my decision to utilize social media platforms with the intention of connecting directly with fans and the public,” he went on to say.

“This debut was inconceivable a few months ago but exciting now,” he admitted.

“Follow me, @BillBelichick, on InstaFace,” he typed under his statement.

Belichick has supposedly been living with his girlfriend, the 23-year-old entrepreneur Jordon Hudson, since the beginning of the year.

In late July, Belichick declined an opportunity to join the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff this season, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan disclosed this on The TK Show podcast.

Shanahan said that he extended an offer to Belichick, including the defensive coordinator role, which Nick Sorensen had filled.
