'Craigslist Murders': Miranda Barbour, 19, Claims To Have Killed Over 22 People In Last Six Years
Miranda Barbour, a teen arrested for killing a man with her husband, Elytte Barbour, claims she has killed over 22 men and has been killing since she was 13-years-old.
Miranda Barbour Claims To Have Killed Over 22 Victims
Miranda, 19, and Elytte, 22, were arrested in December, 2013, for the murder of Troy LaFerrara, 42. The couple reportedly put out an ad on Craigslist, selling “companionship,” something they had done multiple times before. LaFerrara answered the ad, and was promptly stabbed 20 times and strangled upon meeting Miranda and Eytte. The Barbours dumped the body in the backyard of a Sunbury, Pa., home. The police found the Barbours by going through LaFerrara’s cell phone – the Barbours was the last number dialed.
In a recent interview, Miranda opened up about killing LaFerrara and revealed that she has killed over 22 more victims just in the past six years. The bombshell announcement came in an interview with The Daily Item, a local Sunbury paper, which author Francis Scarcella says was requested by Miranda.
Miranda says that she had agreed to have sex with LaFerrara for $100 via the Craigslist ad and the two arranged to meet in the parking lot of the Susquehanna Valley Mall. Miranda claims that she lied to LaFerrara and said that she was 16, under the age of consent. When LaFerrara told her he didn’t care, that was his death sentence.
“He told me that it was ok. If he would have said no, that he wasn’t going to go through with the arrangement, I would have let him go,” she said.
The killing was a first for Elytte, Miranda claims, and the couple had not planned to stab LaFerrara, but his words made Miranda’s rage escalate, and she lost control.
“He said the wrong things. And then things got out of control. I can tell you he was not supposed to be stabbed. My husband was just supposed to strangle him,” Miranda admitted.
Miranda says she intends to plead guilty to killing LaFerrara, though her attorney forced her to plead not guilty at arraignment, and is prepared to come clean about her past crimes.
“I remember everything. It is like watching a movie,” Miranda said.
Miranda has lived all over the country, in Alaska, Texas, North Caroline and California, and the police and the FBI are reportedly looking into any possible homicides Miranda may have been a part of in those states.
“When I hit 22, I stopped counting,” she said when asked how many men she had killed prior to LaFerrara.
Miranda Barbour Belonged To Satanic Cult
While police initially released a statement saying that Miranda and Elytte simply wanted to kill someone, and that someone just happened to be LaFerrara. However, Miranda tells a slightly different story. She claims that she was molested at age 4 and joined a satanic cult in Alaska at age 13, when she murdered for the first time at the urging of the cult leader. Miranda stayed in the cult for three years and claims she became pregnant and was forced to have an “in-house abortion” by the cult members.
Her mother, Elizabeth Dean, confirmed that her brother-in-law had molested Miranda, but says she brought Miranda to a doctor following her claims of a forced abortion and the doctor reported no signs of any such procedure.
When she got pregnant again, Miranda fled the cult:
“And I moved to North Carolina. I wanted to start over and forget everything I did.”
She has a one-year-old baby, and claims that the father, a member of the satanic cult, is now dead. His death is now being investigated as a part of the case against Miranda and her husband.
In her interview, Miranda insists that she only killed people who were criminals themselves, saying, “I would lure these people in. I studied them. I learned them and even became their friend. I did this to people who did bad things and didn’t deserve to be here anymore.”
FBI Involvement
The police have not confirmed Miranda’s story, but Sunbury Chief of Police Steve Mazzeo commented, saying that they had been in touch with police departments and other law enforcement agencies in other states to investigate Miranda’s claims:
“From information we gathered and from information gathered from her interview [with The Daily Item] we are seriously concerned and have been in contact with the proper authorities.”
The FBI also released a statement, offering their help in the case, should it be required.
“The FBI’s Philadelphia Division has recently been in contact with the Sunbury Police Department regarding Miranda Barbour, and will offer any assistance requested in the case,” reads the statement.
Miranda says she does not regret any of her actions, and enthusiastically declares her intention to keep killing, should she be released from prison. According to her, that is why she has decided to come clean: so that she will never again be allowed the freedom to kill.
“I know I will never see my husband again and I have accepted that. I know I wanted to talk about all this because I know I had a 20-year window where I would possibly get out of jail and I don’t want that to happen. If I were to be released, I would do this again.
“By no means is this a way to glorify it or get attention. I’m telling you because it is time for me to be honest and I feel I need to be honest.”
