The assault lawsuit filed against Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has once again been delayed, this time until Aug. 11.
The lawsuit was first filed in September 2020, and dismissed by the court. It was later reopened and March 18, 2024, was set as the trial date. However, the trial was delayed until March 3, 2025. It has officially been delayed again within one year, with Jones’ attorneys requesting an additional six months for the “pre-trial discovery phase.”
The victim’s attorney, Thomas Bowers, told the Dallas Morning News that his client is prepared to appear in court and protested the biased nature of the multiple delays to the case.
The woman behind the lawsuit alleges that at a September 2018 Cowboys game, Jones kissed her, “stuck his tongue” in her mouth, and “forcibly grabbed her without her consent.” Jones claims that he does not remember the event and has declared the accusations to be “malicious,” “hurtful” and “categorically false.”
In her accusation, the victim cited numerous people who witnessed the assault, including former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, players Ezekiel Elliott, Tyrone Crawford, Tyron Smith and DeMarcus Lawrence, as well as Jones’ own wife, Eugenia Jones.
Jones has been the owner of the Cowboys since 1989 when he bought the franchise for $150 million. In the years since, the team has won the Super Bowl three times and the Cowboys are presently estimated to have a net worth of $13.6 billion. The victim is reportedly seeking $1 million in damages for severe emotional distress, psychological pain and severe injuries.
Jones evaded a separate legal matter in July 2024 when he agreed to a settlement in a paternity lawsuit filed by his alleged biological daughter, Alexandra Davis, thus avoiding trial.
The Cowboys have suffered in recent seasons, and Jones has shouldered much of the blame. Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott was even seen mouthing the words “we s—” in a viral clip.
