Courtney Sodden Says She Considered Suicide After Chrissy Teigen’s Relentless Cyberbulling

Courtney Stodden has revealed that Chrissy Teigen cyberbullied them to such an extent that they went so far as to pen a suicide note.

In the ABC documentary IMPACT x Nightline: Confessions of a Child Bride, Stodden details her 2011 marriage to Doug Hutchinson when he was 51 and she was 16.

Many celebrities and public figures were quick to condemn Stodden for her rapid rise in fame, with Teigen infamously tweeting it was her “dream” that Hutchinson and Stodden took a “dirt nap.”

Stodden tells host Juju Chang, “I did actually almost succeed at committing suicide because [the cyberbullying] was a huge part of it. I had a suicide letter written…I remember my last thought was, ‘You know, maybe I don’t deserve to be here when people that high up are telling me I don’t deserve to be.’”

Ten years later when her old tweets started to recirculate, Teigen deleted her X account, announcing “Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends, but it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.”

Following Teigen deleting her account, Stodden shared that Teigen had not only shamed her in public but also privately berated her and Hutchinson online. In a 2021 interview, she said, “She wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take a ‘dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself…Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die.’”

Following Stodden’s initial allegations, Teigen posted an apology to X, writing, “Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bulls— in front of the entire world. I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll.”

Teigen continued, “I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel.” She claimed she had reached out to Stodden privately, but wanted to issue a public apology for fueling the harassment.

However, despite Teigen extending her apology, Stodden alleged to Page Six that she and Hutchinson have remained blocked by Teigen on X. “I was speaking on this maybe for a few years before [Teigen apologzied]…I wish that she maybe could have apologized to me like she said she had.

Stodden finalized her divorce from Hutchinson in 2018. She said she wished shecould go back in time and give herself younger self a hug.

The full documentary is now available to stream on Hulu.
