Courtney Love kicked off her guest arc on Wednesday night’s all new episode of Empire, playing a rocker with substance abuse problems.

Courtney Love Plays Elle Dallas On Empire

Love’s Elle Dallas went head to head with Empire’s resident queen, Cookie (Taraji P Henson), in “Out, Damned Spot” when Cookie takes Dallas, a has-been, on as a client. The episode is the first of seven featuring Love, and also marked guest appearances by Derek Luke and Raven Symoné.

Love, who live-tweeted the episode, said she loved working opposite Henson, especially because she’s just finding her voice as an actress. “I’m limited in my capacity, and for Taraji to be so talented is absolutely fantastic because it allows me to get really – I mean, this is not beauty lighting, you know what I mean? This is some dark stuff,” Love told Vulture.

Love isn’t just acting on the show, she is also singing. Her debut episode on Empire featured Love’s rock cover of “Take Me to the River.”

Empire airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on FOX.
