Court documents unveiled earlier this summer reveal gang member Eric Holder‘s motive for allegedly killing rapper and community activist Nipsey Hussle: a “snitching” accusation about a local gang.
Nipsey Hussle, who was born Ermias Joseph Asghedom, died at age 34 after being fatally shot outside his Marathon Clothing shop in Los Angeles on March 31. Deputy District Attorney John McKinney explained in a statement added to a grand jury transcript how a crucial alleged conversation between Hussle and 29-year-old Holder may have led to the late rapper’s murder.
“Mr. Holder got out of the car, immediately walked up to the group where Mr. Hussle, or Mr. Asghedom was, and they had a conversation,” said McKinney. “That conversation is important because that conversation had something to do with Mr. Asghedom accusing Mr. Holder of snitching, which in the gang world is a very serious offense.” Hussle had reportedly informed Holder of rumors of the latter snitching about the Rollin’ 60s gang.
One witness in the case reportedly claimed in his testimony that Hussle also told Holder, “They got some paperwork on you” and “you got to watch your back.”
On May 9, Holder was indicted on one count of murder, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of attempted murder and assault with a firearm. The gang member is reportedly a failed rapper and was arrested on April 2 following a nearly two-day manhunt.
A woman who was allegedly in a car with Holder around the time of Hussle’s murder also testified and accused Holder of threatening to slap her.
Holder, who pleaded not guilty to murdering Hussle, is now facing a sentence of life in prison.
