Country music artist Scotty McCreery paused his concert at the Colorado State Fair over the weekend after he witnessed a man assault a woman in the audience.

Just moments into his show, McCreery halted his performance of “It Matters To Her” for over two minutes while authorities responded to the situation. Footage from the event, which has circulated on social media, shows McCreery interrupt his show to call out, “Hey, hey, hey! Right here, right here, that’s a lady you just hit, sir.”

McCreery, 30, urged the crowd to assist in identifying the alleged assailant as he said, “Right here, that’s a lady you just hit, sir… Absolutely not, you just hit the lady. Police? Security? Is she OK? Get the heck out of here.”

The singer expressed disbelief at the situation, “On God’s green earth. At a Scotty McCreery show? What are you doing? Y’all let the cop know who hit the lady. That’s absolutely unacceptable.”

“We got ‘em? We good down there?” McCreery asked security before he asserted, “Whoever you are, that’s the definition of a coward, hitting a lady. Get the heck out of here.” He checked in with the crowd and proceeded with his set.

Officials from the Colorado State Fair confirmed the incident occurred at McCreery’s performance though they did not disclose the identity of the man involved or whether he was arrested. Olga Robak, director of communications for the Colorado Department of Agriculture, stated that the event is currently under investigation.

A native of North Carolina, McCreery gained national recognition after he won Season 10 of American Idol in 2011. He married his wife, Gabi, in 2018, and they welcomed their first child, a son named Merrick “Avery” McCreery, in 2022.

In 2014, McCreery was held at gunpoint during a home invasion.
