Country singer Craig Strickland’s body was found today, according to Oklahoma authorities. The 29-year-old had been missing since December 26 when he left for a duck hunting trip.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement Division recovered his body on Monday in Bear Creek Cove, where he and his friend Chase R. Morland were reported missing since December 26 in Kay County, Okla. Moreland’s body was found two days later. Strickland’s wife, Helen Strickland, sent out a tweet stating that her husband’s body was found and that “He is safe with his Father in Heaven. Thank you Lord for leading us to him today. I will praise you, Amen.”
An eerie revelation was a tweet Moreland sent out when they were going on the duck hunting trip, saying, “In case we don’t come back, @BackroadCRAIG and I are going right through Winter Storm Goliath to kill ducks in Oklahoma. #IntoTheStorm.” The day the authorities found their capsized boat, Moreland was found not far from the wreckage.
There was still hope for Strickland’s family when they found their dog, Sam, was found alive with Moreland. “For everyone wanting to know, Sam is fine,” Strickland’s wife tweeted. “He was a brave boy. He wouldn’t leave Chase’s body until the Warden found him.” Strickland’s father, Randy, was hoping on Monday that his son is still alive and that this incident is not true. “We are trying to think of a scenario where he is still alive,” he said. “Hoping against the odds. We can’t even stand to think about it. We are devastated. Only God & time can put us back together.”
Strickland was the lead singer for local country band Backroad Anthem, based in Alma, Arkansas, as well as a acoustic guitarist.
