Cory Monteith, star on Fox's Glee, has checked himself into a rehab facility due to an ongoing struggle with addiction.
Monteith, 30, best known for playing the affable Finn Hudson at McKinley High School, “voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addition,” his publicist told People. “He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”
“I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this,” Lea Michelle, Monteith’s castmate on Glee and longtime girlfriend, said. “I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”
The musical dramedy TV series also weighed in on their star’s decision to get help. “Cory is a beloved member of the Glee famiy and we fully spport his decision to seek treatment,” a statement released by the show on Sunday read. “Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return.
Monteith revealed in 2011 that he had battled a problem with drugs from a young age in an interview with Parade magazine. After an intervention by family and friends, he entered rehab for the first time at 19.
