Conor McGregor has removed a series of heated social media posts criticizing Nikita Hand, the woman awarded €250,000 ($262,000) in a civil sexual assault case against the UFC fighter.
The jury found McGregor, 36, liable for sexually assaulting Hand, 35, at a south Dublin hotel in December 2018.
After a three-week trial, the High Court jury of eight women and four men deliberated for over six hours before deciding in favor of Hand. The total damages awarded included €60,000 ($63,000) for general damages, €135,026 ($141,000) for loss of earnings, €4,557.64 ($4800) in medical expenses and €50,000 ($52,000) for loss of future earnings. No aggravated or exemplary damages were granted.
Speaking after the verdict, Hand told the Mail on Sunday she always believed she would win because she was “telling the truth from day one.”
In now-deleted posts, McGregor blasted the verdict, vowing to appeal and describing the case as a “kangaroo court of opinions and feelings.” He stated: “Two men falsely accused. One vindicated, the other soon to be!”
His posts also praised his friend James Lawrence, who was accused of assaulting Hand on the same night but was cleared of any wrongdoing. McGregor wrote: “Congrats James Lawrence on absolute exoneration! Twice this heinous accusation was put to you and twice it was shown as FALSE!”
McGregor continued to dispute Hand’s account, referencing her testimony in which she alleged she feared she would be “gang raped.” He questioned the credibility of her claims and criticized the media’s portrayal of the trial, calling the reporting “as clear as day bias.”
Civil cases require jurors to decide based on the balance of probabilities, unlike criminal cases, which demand proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
Although McGregor deleted his tirade, he later reposted a tweet questioning the validity of the verdict and suggesting it was an effort to damage his reputation. The tweet cited “key details” of the case as evidence that the decision was flawed while accusing critics of targeting McGregor for his outspoken political views.
Hand, meanwhile, said she is focusing on recovery after the grueling legal battle. “I’m just trying to take it day by day now,” she said.
Despite the trial’s toll on her, she emphasized that the outcome validates her decision to pursue justice, saying, “I always believed in my heart that I would [win].”
In June 2023, McGregor was accused of assaulting a different woman after the NBA Finals in Las Vegas.
