Connie Britton's New Show, 'Nashville,' 'Is Not A Catfight'

Since her stints on Friday Night Lights and American Horror Story, it seems like everything Connie Britton, 45, touches turns to gold. Now she's starring as Rayna James in ABC's new Nashville, about a fading country singer who suddenly has to play second fiddle to Hayden Panettiere's young vixen, Juliette Barnes.

Britton, who helped American Horror Story rise to the top of FX in its first season, has a vision of what she wants to bring to her new character, who it's been rumored was inspired by Reba McEntire, and it's more than meets the eye. "It's sort of an amalgam of a lot of different people," Britton told the Sioux City Journal.

"My whole mantra from the beginning is that this is not a catfight," Britton said. "I don't think anybody's interested in that. I think we're much more interested in just showing these two people at different places in their lives and what their journeys will be."

As for Britton's own journey, she's loving every minute of being a single mom to her son, Yoby, whom she adopted from Ethiopia in November of last year, but her career and motherhood leave little time for anything else. "I'm in such great shape right now to meet a man, I just don't have time," Britton said, reports Contact Music. "I have no sex life right now," she admitted.

And being in a musical series isn't the only departure from the norm Britton's taken — raising a boy is also something of a first. "What the hell am I doing raising a boy?" she said. "Like, literally, I have no idea what I'm doing; did not grow up with boys, except from my father. Everybody in my family had girls; we had matriarchs in our family… And I don't have a man in my life, so it's very interesting to me that here I am now, about to raise this little boy."

The pilot of Nashville, which officially premieres on ABC on Wednesday, October 10 at 10 p.m., is currently also available online.
