The prophecy will soon be completed, as the sitcom Community will finally be getting the “Six seasons and a movie” that fan-favorite cinephile character Abed (Danny Pudi) always quoted as the perfect life of a TV show.
Community showrunner Dan Harmon had recently hinted that a movie was “definitely” coming up but could be a while, but it has now been officially green-lit by Peacock and Sony Pictures TV. The show premiered on NBC in 2009, where it was critically acclaimed but mostly flew under the radar.
The series featured a great ensemble led by Joel McHale who will be returning in his role as Jeff Winger and as an executive producer for the show. Also confirmed to be returning are stars Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and
Ken Jeong. Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown were members of the original cast, but it’s not confirmed if they will return even for cameos in this movie.
The network replaced Harmon as showrunner after the mixed response to the fourth season, and then canceled it outright after the fifth. The show was then picked up for a sixth and final season on Crackle. Along with securing the movie rights, Peacock has also acquired non-exclusive streaming rights to the whole show’s back catalog of episodes.
