Broadcaster John Melendez, nicknamed Stuttering John and once a contributor to The Howard Stern show, played a prank on President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Melendez called the White House pretending to be Sen. Bob Menendez who requested to speak to Trump about immigration. On Air Force One, Trump returned his phone call. He told the imposter:

“’You went through a tough, tough situation — and I don’t think a very fair situation — but congratulations,” Trump said, referencing the senator’s recent acquittal of his corruption case.

Ironically, he and Trump used to be regulars on the Howard Stern show, so it’s funny that he didn’t recognize the voice sooner.

Melendez’s one-hour podcast featured ten minutes of the conversation. Additionally, he revealed he spoke to Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and adviser, who asked Melendez what the “senator” wanted to discuss.

In fact, Trump said he wanted to work with Menendez on an immigration bill:

“Bob, let me just tell you, I want to be able to take care of the situation, every bit as much as anybody else,” Trump said. “I think we can do the whole thing. You know, I have a good relationship with the party, you have a good relationship with the party. And I think we can do a real immigration bill.”

Melendez also questioned the president about who he will appoint to the Supreme Court. Trump said he’s looking at various qualified candidates and will have his pick in about 12 to 14 days. Trump ended the conversation by telling Melendez he was on Air Force One, adding that they should speak again when he returns to Washington D.C.

In Melendez’s podcast, you can hear him muster up an English accent, posing as Menendez’s assistant. At one point, he was asked why he was calling from a California number that didn’t match up for the number they had on record for Menendez’s office. Melendez said he was on vacation, though the Senate was in session at the time.
