Comedian Rick Smiley’s Daughter, Aaryn Smiley, Shot Multiple Times

Comedian and radio show host Rickey Smiley’s 19-year-old daughter is currently recovering after being shot multiple times over the July 4 weekend.

On Monday, Smiley posted an emotional video, detailing that his daughter Aaryn had been shot and injured in Houston over Independence Day weekend. Smiley has been active on his YouTube account since the incident, with videos keeping his fans and followers updated on his daughter’s recovery.

“I’m so mad right now, I don’t know what to do,” the comedian said. “The reason I’m on Facebook Live is cause I just want you to see that it’s raw and it’s real. I want you to see what parents have to deal with when their children become victims of gun violence.”

Investigators have reported that a suspect pulled up to a car at a red light on Houston’s south side following a prior altercation. The suspect opened fire, and Smiley’s daughter, who was in a different vehicle at the light, was caught in the crossfire.

Along with Smiley’s daughter, there were three other victims of the incident, all transported to the hospital and all expected to survive their injuries.

On July 6, Smiley tweeted, “My daughter made it out of her operation. She’s doing great!! Thank you for your prayers!!!”

Aaryn also posted on social media following the horrific incident. She shared multiple images, one including a picture of a blood-drenched car seat on Instagram with the caption, “This is the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me. I won’t be out of the hospital for a while nor will I be able to walk for a while due to nerve damage.”

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aaryn was unable to see her parents while hospitalized after the accident. Her father posted a picture of himself in a mask on Instagram with the caption, “I respect the rules. Can’t see my daughter @ryn.smiley because of #covid19… it’s getting dark and I’m not leaving this park until I lay eyes on her. #Houston (Thanks to the @HoustonPolice for being so awesome and kind to us.)”
