A comedian and former Chelsea Lately panelist, Heather McDonald, shocked fans at a Tempe, Arizona comedy club when she made a hard fall after telling only one joke.
McDonald was headlining the Improv for a sold-out show, and after cracking a punchline that “Jesus loves me most” because she hasn’t gotten Covid-19 yet, the comedian reportedly immediately fell and cracked her head on the stage.
Onlookers say that there was a brief pause when the fall first happened, as audience members thought that it was part of the routine, but a nurse and EMT who happened to be in the crowd quickly rushed to the stage when they realized McDonald really fell. Her condition was initially reported as a seizure to 911, but it’s unclear what caused the fall.
In an Instagram video, McDonald apologized profusely. “I got up, I did one joke, and I felt so dizzy… I fell on my eye,” she said. She assured fans that she would be back when she’s able, and “I’ve never, ever fainted in my life.”
According to a rep, McDonald is still in hospital undergoing tests, but she has tested negative for Covid-19 and was not drinking at the time of the fall. They also confirmed that McDonald suffered a skull fracture from the fall.
