Columbus Short, currently known as Harrison on Scandal, was arrested Wednesday and charged with battery for his suspected involvement in a bar fight on March 15.
Short, an actor and dancer who has starred in the hit ABC show Scandal since 2011, reportedly turned himself in to the Claremont Police Department and was released on a $50,000 bail.
Short is accused of punching a man in the face on March 15, breaking his nose and leaving him unconscious. If convicted of the felony charge, he could be facing 4 years in prison. Short allegedly lost his temper when a man said something inappropriate about Short’s estranged wife Tanee McCall-Short.
“It happened out in the back, in the parking lot, so [no] one who works here saw anything,” said a spokesman from Gabe’s Bar and Grill where the incident occurred.
Short has been married since 2005, but McCall-Short filed for divorce in September, 2013. The couple, which share a 2-year-old daughter, as well as Short’s 10-year-old son from a previous marriage, is said to be in the process of reconciliation.
New reports suggest that Short has a history of violent arrests. According to TMZ, Short was arrested for attacking his wife in front of his children in February. He was charged with spousal battery and child abuse, due to emotional trauma. Short has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Two weeks later Short was reportedly arrested again for pushing his wife during an argument and the bar fight occurred less than a month after that. TMZ also suggests that Short was charged with aggravated battery of a man in 2010, but the charges were dismissed.
Short has not released any statement regarding his arrest, nor has any of the Scandal producers or cast mates, including show creator Shonda Rhimes.
