Colonel Meow, Guinness World Record Breaking Cat, Dies At 2
Colonel Meow, the longhaired Persian-Himalayan mix cat who became an Internet celebrity, died on Wednesday. He was 2.
Colonel Meow’s owner, Anne Marie Avey, announced Colonel Meow’s passing on Facebook Wednesday. "Colonel Meow passed away yesterday evening," Avey wrote. "I will post more about the details when I've had a few days to grieve. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both. -Slave Beast."
It was first reported that Colonel Meow had taken ill back in November. Fans of the feline, dubbed minions, sent more than $20,000 in donations to help Avey cover the medical bills. Unfortunately, the treatments weren’t enough to save him.
Avey found Colonel Meow on the side of the road in Seattle and later adopted him. Colonel Meow, with fur measuring 9-inches in length, made the Guinness World Records for having the longest hair on record for a cat.
