Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin, had an unexpected trip when he fell through a trap door during a concert in Australia on Sunday.
The singer was reading signs in the audience onstage when he backed up, unwittingly falling into a trapdoor at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium. Fortunately, a crew member was waiting below to catch him.
“That’s not planned,” Martin told the crowd before addressing his rescuer, “Thank you for catching me.”
Making light of the situation, he added, “Holy —-, that was nearly a YouTube moment.”
Coldplay is on their Music of the Spheres world tour, which began in 2022 and is expected to run through September 2025. They are currently performing the Australian portion of the tour.
Over nine million tickets have been sold across 164 dates, bringing in $1.1 billion in revenue. It is ranked as the most attended world tour and the second highest-grossing tour, behind Taylor Swift’s The Era’s Tour of the year.
Last month, the band was mocked for promoting its new album on QVC.
