Coldplay’s promotional appearance on QVC’s home shopping channel has sparked widespread criticism across social media. The band performed tracks from their 10th album, Moon Music, leading to a wave of mockery on X (formerly Twitter), where users expressed ridicule over the unconventional promotional approach.
“Holy s—,” an X user wrote, “that QVC broadcast with Coldplay shows everything wrong with capitalist consumerism.”
Another questioned the band’s decision, tweeting, “Now why the f— is Coldplay performing live on QVC?!”
Some fans were even shocked by the band’s shift in promotional style. “Coldplay selling their album live on QVC in America is utterly bizarre stuff; they are so unserious…” one user posted.
However, only some were critical. Several fans appreciated the unique strategy. One fan commented, “That was one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen, but loved it! Really want one of those music boxes.”
Another user shared enthusiasm for the performance, tweeting, “Coldplay performing on QVC!? D’ya know what? Go off. Because we are really strapped for TV shows and channels where we can watch live performances. And this is a way for acts to flog some physical copies of their albums, too. More acts should get in on this.”
QVC, a free-to-air television network known for selling apparel, accessories and home goods, shocked many viewers with Coldplay’s appearance on Thursday. The world-famous band, consisting of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, has sold over 100 million records worldwide. But instead of performing at a more traditional venue, the hitmakers appeared on the shopping channel to promote a themed tea set tied to their album artwork.
Martin joked about the shift in focus: “That is vastly more important than the album. Because we’re older now, we’re moving into crockery and Tupperware. The music is really just serving our kitchen line now.”
In addition to their live performance, the band also took calls from viewers. One caller, Candy from Florida, shared that she had missed a concert in 2008 due to her father’s death. In response, Chris sang, “I’m sorry we missed you back in 2008, but some things are better when you’re forced to wait.”
Host Jennifer Coffey claimed that more than 30,000 people were waiting to buy the band’s album just 10 minutes after they went live.
Despite the mixed reaction to their QVC appearance, Martin believes Moon Music is one of the band’s best works, noting, “If you’ve ever liked Coldplay, your favorite Coldplay song’s probably on this album.”

Who cares where they promote? Some of you must have been watching QVC. Some people never quit complaining about anything!
