Actress Jessica Chastain has received harsh backlash following her criticism of JetBlue on social media.
“Thank you @JetBlue for your $15.00 credit. My flight was $1,500 and the credit is 1/100 of the money I paid you,” Chastain wrote in a since-deleted post to X on Wednesday.
She continued, “Strange that I paid that for your flight entertainment system that didn’t work for the duration of my 6hr flight, but I guess it was worth it for this $15 credit.”
Alongside the caption, Chastain included a screenshot of the $15 received credit as evidence.
Chastain followed up with another post showing her direct exchange with an airline representative, who confirmed the $15 refund for the entertainment malfunctions. Chastain replied, “I understand, but I spent $1500 on the flight, and so did my husband. There should be some flight credit or something since I have a TrueBlue account and have been a loyal customer.” The representative further confirmed the price of her refund and said there were no other actions for her to take.
Internet users immediately slammed Chastain for her preoccupation with money as a wealthy actress, particularly despite the suffering of thousands from natural disasters. One X user wrote, “Girl read the room? You’re a millionaire flying a budget airline,” and another wrote, “Like she paid for the flight. She took the flight. Why be offended a budget airline doesn’t have working amenities.”
Others called her the griping from “clueless celebrity.”
Other social media users noted that while Chastain’s treatment was poor and her interactions with the airline might not have been over the top, she should be more aware of her celebrity status and platform when complaining on social media.
Still, others suggested that companies might be more inclined to sort out customer treatment issues experienced by all travelers if a high-profile celebrity draws attention to the problem.
Chastain made headlines last year when she fell during the SAG Awards ceremony.
